BSU STRIKE.... Where we are now.
A meeting between government committee and
ASUU/NASUU was held yesterday in a bid to
resolve the current strike embarked upon by the
two unions of the university. However, a source
in the university that prefers to remain
anonymous revealed that the meeting ended in a
deadlock and will possibly not yield positive
results should government not shift grounds from
mere appeals.
Recall that shortly after ASUU shotdown the
school, the state government swiftly put together
an ad-hoc committee to negotiate with the
boycotting BSU staff to resume work while their
issues are being looked into. We are made to
understand that all verbal pleas were rejected
with outright vehemence from the striking bodies
citing obvious reasons of negligence and
insensitivity on the part of government.
All hands were on deck yesterday as the
students and the Benue people were itching to
receive a more positive news from the meeting
after a promising momentum it assumed.
Ironically, both parties refused to absorb waters
as the state government plainly told both unions
that the state government do not have funds to
prosecute their demands at the moment. The
government wholeheartedly pleaded that they
should resume work as plans were in top gears
to access funds and settle their plights
immediately.
ASUU/NASUU officials on their part promised to
take the state government's written appeals to
their Congresses and report back to the
committee the outcome of their meetings.
Detail will come your way after both unions come
out of their meetings probably today.
