PDP PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATES

President Muhammadu Buhari, who has only just returned yesterday after over a hundred days of medical leave, is yet to declare his interest in seeking a second term of office. The possibility of that happening cannot be ruled out as his loyalists and political associates have continued to fly that kite. But the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), which was ousted from power in 2015 by the All Progressives Congress (APC), has vowed to make a comeback in 2019. The PDP’s resolve to upstage the President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC government was reinforced at its recent mini convention in Abuja where the party’s bigwigs vowed to dethrone the governing APC using the slogan: ‘Change the Change’. History of Population Censuses in Nigeria HISTORY OF POPULATION CENSUSES IN NIGERIA Nigeria has a long history of census takings spanning over a century. The first census was conducted in 1866 and this was followed by Censuses of 1871, 1881, 1891 and 1901. However, all these earlier censuses were restricted to Lagos Colony and its environs. The 1871 census marked the beginning of decennial census taking in Nigeria in line with the British decennial tradition. Following the amalgamation of the Lagos Colony and the Southern Protectorate in 1906, the 1911 census extended to some parts of the Southern Protectorate. It was marred by incomplete enumeration because some parts of the South had not recognized the legitimacy of the Colonial Government. The amalgamation of the Southern and Northern protectorates in 1914 by Lord Lugard provided the impetus for population census that had wider coverage. Fulani herdsmen killed not less than 27 in Edumoga

EDUMOGA KILLING ON 5th March, 2018. 27 persons killed in Omusu Edumoga Fulani herdsmen attack. The number of people killed in a suspected fulani herdsmen attack on Omusu community in Edumoga,Okpokwu council has risen to 27 following the discovery of more victims and survivors . The attack took place on Monday shortly after a communal meeting of the community. The chairman of Okpokwu ,Hon Olofu Ogwuche who mobilised a team of security men to the area after the gory attack said the suspected herdsmen struck after he left a peace meeting in the area. Survivors and volunteers from neighbouring communities are combing the bush for more victims. Victims have been moved to hospitals within the area by the chairman of the council.
