Senate Bars Goodluck Jonathan From Contesting In 2019 Election The Nigerian Senate, on Wednesday, barred a former president, Goodluck Jonathan from running for a second term in office. This was done during voting in series of new bills being passed by the upper legislative chamber. The Bill sought that any vice president who had completed a tenure of a sitting president and contested a fresh four years mandate shall not be eligible to run for a second term of office.

CBN Sells $195m To Boost Forex Supply The Central Bank of Nigeria on Monday intervened once again in the foreign exchange Market to boost forex liquidity. According to the Acting Director, Corporate Communications of the Central Bank, Isaac Okorafor, a total of $195 million dollars was offered. The acting director said Small and Medium Enterprises segment received $50 million, while the wholesale segment was appropriated $100 million. The remaining $45 million was allocated to the tuition fees, medical payments and Basic Travel Allowance window. Okorafor reaffirmed the CBN commitment to rates convergence and price stability. Last week, the apex bank injected a total of $396.8 million in the various segments of the foreign exchange market. Experts have said the continuous intervention is aiding consumer prices and general price stability in the country. WASCE Records Best Result In 10 Years In what is clearly its best result in the last 10 years, the West African Examination Council (WAEC) on Monday in Lagos announced a 59.22 percent pass rate in the 2017 May/June West African Senior School Examinations (WASSCE). This result is a huge leap from the poorest result of 2008 record of 13.76 pass rate in the number of candidates with pass in five subjects including English Language and Mathematics and three other subjects. In view of this, the 2017 result may signal a complete departure from the era of mass failure that characterises the performance of Nigerian candidates in the regional examination.
