WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY part 3

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY part 3 By N. OLUCHI JOY NIGERIAN NEWS VENDOR I stood, watching her in awe. I allowed her to talk because it seems the only way she could release the rage burning in her, and its the only way she could justify her action to passerby, and those who cared to listen. Finally, I told the little girl to kneel down and plea for mercy, but she refused. I was startled. The same little girl I tried to help, flouted at my order. "Baby girl kneel down and beg your mom, or do you want to remain outside in this cold weather?, I persuaded her. But she was stubborn. I watched her in awe, smile creeping over her face, stretching her lips, an embarrassed smile. I turned towards the woman, whom, too, was startled by the girl's behaviour, and plead for mercy on behalf of the little girl. " Aunty please forgive her", I said. "Don't keep her outside in this cold weather, to avoid sickness". I said, it was the best thing to do at that moment. " c

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY part 2

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY part 2 By N. OLUCHI JOY I continued knocking until I got tired. I shouldn't have bothered myself, I thought. I had wanted to leave at that moment, but I turned to see the curious eyes of the little girl, glaring at me with hope. I knew I had to do something. I cannot stop what I had started. I knocked few more times on the door, and then it occurred to me that whomsoever was inside was not ready to come out, and I had to go because it was already late. Sadly, I instructed the girl to keep knocking, that she should make sure she gets inside because this kind of rain can cause sickness. "Aunty abeg open door for this pikin to enter inside, cold dey." I said, and then turned and started going. I had barely walked few steps away, when I heard a high pitched voice called out, "na who be that person?. I was startled. I had already given up, I had lose interest in the case. "Ma, please allow this little girl to go inside, I said, as I walke

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY

WHAT HAPPENED YESTERDAY by N.OLUCHI JOY Republished by Nigerian news vendor I was returning from an errand when I saw a little girl outside, standing in front of their door step. Immediately, I perceived that something was wrong. I had wanted to ignore whatever the case might be and move on, but I went straight to her and ask her and ask her what the matter was. The little girl did not reply me. Rather, she held the door handle and tried opening it, like everything was normal, like she was only standing outside for a while to go out inside later, but the handle went limply, it was locked from inside. Unknowingly to her, I had already sensed the problem, I wasn't surprised by her act. I told her to knock for whomsoever was inside because it was rainy, and that kind of rain usually comes with cold which can attract sickness. She knocked severally, but there was no reply. Whomsoever was inside that house wasn't ready to open for the little girl, I thought. So, I took it

KWAME NKRUMAH, I SPEAK OF FREEDOM

Dr Kwame Nkrumah is the epitome of the “ prophet never recognized in his own home” . T hroughout his time in office he was passionate about African Unity . Some say he was consumed by the notion due to his unbridled love for power and ambition. Today however , critical analysis will bear out his correct vision and foresight. 50 years on, no single African country can count itself as developed . Africa though waking up is still bedeviled as ever before from one trauma to another . I looked back on his speech in 1963 and realized how right he was. In these extracts ones sees how prophetic Osagyefo was . Would there have been a Cedi crisis if Africa had one currency? What of the wars in Sudan, CAR, Somalia, Liberia, Sierra Leone Mali, Guinea, Cote D'Ivoire, Congo that have killed and maimed so many women, children, and men and so hindered economic growth . All we needed was the African High Command . Would there have been sanctuary for the Boko Haram, or El Shoebab, or Al Qaeda The
